About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide legal advice across corporate and strategic projects at Standard Life
- Work as part of the Corporate and Investments Legal team
- Provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders and colleagues across the business
- Take ownership of complex legal matters with a high degree of autonomy
- Use external counsel effectively where specialist support is required
- Advise on and negotiate investment services agreements
- Advise on investment-related commercial contracts
- Identify and manage key legal and commercial risks
- Manage external counsel to deliver cost-effective, business-aligned advice
- Support delivery of key corporate and strategic projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Senior qualified lawyer with experience gained in-house or in private practice
- Strong technical expertise and sound legal judgement
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation and analytical skills
- Significant experience advising on and negotiating investment services agreements, including investment management agreements, custody agreements, fund link agreements and ancillary services agreements
- Experience advising on investment-related commercial contracts, including IT agreements and market data licences
- Ability to identify and manage key legal and commercial risks
- Experience managing external counsel
- Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively across General Counsel, senior stakeholders and external suppliers
- A background in financial services would be helpful
- Understanding of asset management operations, asset classes and investment vehicles would be helpful
