About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and govern the Vaccines Medical AI strategy and roadmap aligned to Vaccines Global Business Unit and R&D priorities
- Advise Vaccines Medical leadership, Global Medical franchises, and Global Product Teams on responsible AI and advanced analytics adoption
- Establish frameworks, standards, and controls for responsible AI, including model validation, human oversight, data provenance, bias monitoring, and documentation
- Define business cases, value frameworks, and success metrics for AI investments
- Lead design, piloting, and scaled deployment of AI-enabled medical affairs solutions
- Oversee delivery from use-case definition and proof-of-concept through validation, deployment, adoption, and performance monitoring
- Partner with Digital and enterprise AI platform teams on architecture, data access, tooling, scalability, security, and interoperability
- Represent Vaccines Medical in enterprise AI councils and governance forums
- Drive change management, training, and capability building for Medical Affairs colleagues
- Provide oversight of financial projections, budget strategy, resourcing, vendors, agencies, and offshore teams
- Interpret evolving U.S. and global regulatory, legal, privacy, and ethical guidance on AI in medical and scientific settings
Requirements
What you’ll need- MD with at least 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs, scientific communications, evidence generation, medical or scientific strategy, clinical development, or a related scientific field, OR PhD with at least 7 years of such experience
- At least 5 years of experience applying artificial intelligence and advanced analytics in scientific or medical settings
- Hands-on experience developing, evaluating, or deploying machine learning, natural language processing, and large language model/generative AI solutions in life sciences, medical, or scientific contexts
- Experience defining and shaping AI or digital solution strategy, prioritizing use cases, building roadmaps, and translating enterprise medical priorities into solutions
- Comprehensive understanding of Medical Affairs, including medical strategy, evidence generation, scientific communications, and scientific engagement
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Experience operating in a highly regulated environment
- Familiarity with global AI healthcare and pharmaceutical regulatory and policy landscapes
- Experience applying responsible and trustworthy AI principles, including model validation, human oversight, data governance, bias mitigation, and transparency
- Experience overseeing technology or analytics solutions from concept through validation, deployment, and sustained adoption
- Experience with vendor and partner management and senior cross-functional matrix teams
- Candidates must be authorized to be employed in the U.S. by any employer
- Position requires permanent work authorization in the United States
- U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future
