About the role
- Join the backend Development team at PetLabCo, reporting into the Lead backend Engineer
- Help optimise backend tech stack and contribute to platform rebuilds
- Work on small tech projects such as updating APIs, creating new ones, and implementing new features
- Support on bigger initiatives and contribute to high-impact platform work
- Participate in daily stand-ups and peer code reviews
- Develop high-quality, tested Python microservices for AWS under guidance
- Collaborate with senior engineers to implement technical solutions that meet functional needs
- Learn and apply best practices to improve code quality and team processes
- Communicate progress, blockers, and technical challenges to the team
Requirements
- Relevant degree (IT, Engineering etc) or equivalent experience
- 1–3 years of experience working with backend technologies (Python, MySQL)
- Demonstratable project experience utilizing Python and MSQL or similar
- Basic understanding of programming languages and paradigms, with a willingness to take feedback and improve
- Enthusiastic self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset to work effectively with the team
- Pasion for Learning and to grow in a supportive environment
- Any exposure to Terraform, Microservices, API Gateway, Pydantic, Alembic, Lambda, or AWS Cloud is a plus
