About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Uphold Petco animal care standards and ensure animal health, safety, and proper handling
  • Promote a safe, welcoming environment for pets, pet parents, and partners
  • Deliver friendly, knowledgeable, solution-oriented customer service
  • Support and supervise store partners during assigned shifts
  • Assist with training new partners and reinforcing sales-floor best practices
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment
  • Open and close the store while following cash-handling, safety, and security protocols
  • Support sales, task execution, recovery, merchandising, and daily store operations
  • Execute planograms, pricing, signage, and promotional setups
  • Assist with restocking, cycle counts, inventory integrity, and inventory paperwork
  • Identify inventory and merchandising issues and communicate them to store leadership
  • Process transactions, refunds, and exchanges accurately
  • Act as the primary point of contact when store management is absent
  • Address customer questions and resolve concerns
  • Provide guidance and direction to partners and escalate concerns appropriately

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Previous retail experience required
  • Key holder or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic math skills and cash and transaction-handling experience
  • Reliable, responsible, and detail oriented
  • Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting
  • Ability to work in proximity to animals, including exposure to dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals
  • Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Limited travel may be required for training, meetings, or community engagement
