About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide leadership and guidance to stores to achieve district sales and profit goals
  • Develop and implement plans, policies, and procedures to maximize profits
  • Analyze store sales and expenses, provide feedback and recommendations, and present district sales figures to the Regional Manager
  • Visit district stores regularly and inspect compliance with Petco policies, procedures, and merchandising programs
  • Recruit, train, develop, and manage Store Management; maintain succession plans
  • Ensure associates are trained to provide outstanding customer service and take corrective action when necessary
  • Counsel Store Managers on personnel issues, store events, problem solving, and crisis intervention
  • Plan and track individual and store goals
  • Visit competitor locations and report changes in prices, operations, and policies
  • Audit store paperwork and cash-control procedures
  • Ensure compliance with shrink-reduction and Asset Protection programs
  • Coordinate new store openings, remodels, and store equipment repairs
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of store paperwork and routing of corporate correspondence
  • Promote established safety procedures
  • Monitor merchandise levels, balance stock between stores, and audit physical inventory counts
  • Complete Store Manager performance evaluations and annual merit increase recommendations
  • Approve store employee performance evaluations and provide progressive-discipline guidance
  • Communicate district situations and conditions to appropriate management or departments
  • Travel between stores, sometimes several hundred miles per week
