About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain artistic direction and quality
  • Work with Leads and other Lighting Artists to create high-quality lighting schemes aligned with the project's universe and visual direction
  • Light scenes or levels based on reference photographs and/or concept art materials
  • Drive narrative storytelling through effective use of color, light, and mood
  • Light scenes, levels, or cinematics according to creative and technical briefs and deadlines
  • Participate in reviews and implement feedback from leads and peers
  • Participate in R&D initiatives to explore new techniques and improve pipelines and workflows
  • Work with developers across multiple disciplines and ensure work is integrated into the build
  • Balance visual quality with game performance requirements
  • Review and playtest work in the editor and in-game

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years in AAA console/PC game development, including 1 year in Unreal Engine
  • Strong portfolio showcasing world and local lighting work
  • Ability to artistically interpret concepts and creatively push beyond initial ideation
  • Solid traditional art skills and foundational design competencies in shape, form, texture, value, and color
  • In-depth knowledge of Physically Based Rendering workflows
  • Understanding of current-generation console performance limitations and possibilities
  • Ability to create lighting content including textures, IES profiles, HDR maps, materials, and scripts
  • Understanding of basic photography concepts such as EV, shutter speed, ISO, and composition
  • Ability to receive and implement feedback
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new styles, techniques, and workflows
  • Ability to collaborate with department leads and different departments to solve artistic and technical challenges
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Nice to have: Degree in any art field
  • Nice to have: Photography
  • Nice to have: Good Unreal Engine knowledge or another game engine
  • Nice to have: Working knowledge of Renderman, V-Ray, or Arnold
  • Nice to have: Breakdown or work-in-progress images of finished lighting work
