About the role
- Create, present and prototype gameplay ideas for core and emergent combat mechanics and systems, combat characters, their feel, behaviors, abilities and encounters across various contexts.
- Implement melee-focused combat characters with animations and behaviors using state machines, behavior trees, visual effects, sound effects and arena-based combat setups and pacing, using the provided level design tools and various other scripting systems.
- Produce design documents, content briefs, system descriptions and other materials to share all necessary information with relevant teams.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines, ensuring the right partners are engaged and informed throughout the development process.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, including new game genres, new design methods and techniques, and the latest advancements in audiovisual excellence.
- Able to act with a high degree of autonomy and initiative, and contribute to defining the combat design team's goals.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience shipping AAA games for console and PC
- At least two years of experience developing third-person melee combat games, in roles related to AI, combat or systems design
- Professional proficiency with at least one game editor/engine; experience with multiple engines is a plus
- Exceptional ability to conceptualize, present and implement game systems and features using a variety of tools, technologies and visual languages
- Clear understanding of creative and game development processes
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English
- Proven track record of creating engaging and fun gameplay, scenarios and encounters
- Motivated, hardworking team player, willing to give and receive feedback and critique
- Passion for combat-focused games (third-person action-adventure with combat or combat-oriented RPGs)
- Experience with scripting (visual and/or textual) to support avatar behaviors, combat actions and hero state-machine behaviors
- Nice to have: Good understanding of action-adventure genre design, player psychology and emerging industry trends
- Knowledge of Maya, 3DS Max or similar 3D software
- Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence and Perforce Client (P4V)
