About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop, lead, and sustain relationships with faculty and researchers in targeted PSOM departments
Meet with investigators to identify technologies with commercial potential
Evaluate technology disclosures and recommend go/no-go decisions on patent protection
Present intellectual property and commercialization recommendations at weekly Patent Investment Meetings
Identify and engage industry partners and investors
Perform due diligence and technology valuation to inform deal strategy and structure
Lead negotiations of licensing and option agreements
Assist with sponsored research and other research-related agreements
Manage internal and external client and company partner relationships after agreement execution
Develop commercialization strategies for technologies and portfolios
Conduct market analysis and identify commercial opportunities
Prepare non-confidential technology marketing materials
Conduct outreach, seminars, workshops, and events for faculty, researchers, and trainees
Support programs promoting corporate partnerships and collaboration with Penn and PCI
Mentor and guide junior TLOs and trainees

Requirements

What you’ll need

Master's degree and 5–7 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
PhD and 3–5 years of relevant work experience in a life science field strongly preferred
Understanding of the research environment, preferably in higher education
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
