About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate responses to test questions by Texas teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss various types of bias and develop strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring
  • Participate in training before scoring begins
  • Attend a brief orientation meeting if scheduled
  • Score during intermittent sessions from Monday through Friday, every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the subject

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least three years of experience teaching the subject applied for in Texas
  • Taught the subject applied for or related courses in a Texas classroom within the past three years
  • Reside in the state of Texas
  • Hold a bachelor's degree
  • Basic computer skills, including keyboard and mouse proficiency
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Comply with ethical obligations under §SBEC 230.21(g), including test security and confidentiality requirements
  • Must not use scorer training or experience for compensated test-preparation work related to this assessment
  • Must not take the relevant subject examination within 180 days of scoring
  • Must meet one of the following: be a PK–12 teacher with a valid and current Texas teaching certificate for the subject; be an EPP faculty member of a Texas-approved program offering the subject; or be an EPP faculty member teaching Texas-approved certification courses for the subject
  • Must pass a qualifying test before scoring
