About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Evaluate responses to test questions by Texas teacher candidates
Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
Recognize and discuss various types of bias and develop strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring
Participate in training before scoring begins
Attend a brief orientation meeting if scheduled
Score during intermittent sessions from Monday through Friday, every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the subject

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least three years of experience teaching the subject applied for in Texas
Taught the subject applied for or related courses in a Texas classroom within the past three years
Reside in the state of Texas
Hold a bachelor's degree
Basic computer skills, including keyboard and mouse proficiency
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to maintain a confidential work environment
Eligible to work in the United States
Comply with ethical obligations under §SBEC 230.21(g), including test security and confidentiality requirements
Must not use scorer training or experience for compensated test-preparation work related to this assessment
Must not take the relevant subject examination within 180 days of scoring
Must meet one of the following: be a PK–12 teacher with a valid and current Texas teaching certificate for the subject; be an EPP faculty member of a Texas-approved program offering the subject; or be an EPP faculty member teaching Texas-approved certification courses for the subject
Must pass a qualifying test before scoring
