About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate responses to test questions by New York teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss implicit, cultural, leniency, central tendency, and halo-effect biases, and use strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program
  • Pass a qualifying test before scoring
  • Complete training before scoring begins and potentially attend a brief orientation meeting
  • Participate in intermittent scoring sessions one day every 8 weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current teaching certification in the subject area applied for
  • Currently teaching or have taught in public or private schools within the last three years, including regular substitute teaching; OR
  • Currently or formerly an educator from a college or university who has taught or advised a content-relevant field within the last three years; OR
  • Degree in the content area and professional employment in the content area within the last three years
  • Both active and recently retired practitioners may be eligible
  • Basic computer skills, including keyboard and mouse use
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a qualifying test before scoring
