About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implements and supports project HSE plans, regulatory requirements, and other safe work practices
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training
  • Implements district HSE communication strategies on projects
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans
  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance
  • Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators and other employees

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • Holds safety designation
  • 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset
  • Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology
  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Government of Canada security clearance at the Reliability Status level.
