About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive agency performance across sales, customer service, and operations etc
  • Achieve or exceed commercial budgets while maintaining cost discipline
  • Proactively resolve business challenges including market shifts and internal conflicts
  • Manage working capital, cash flow, and debtor control to ensure financial stability
  • Own full P&L responsibility for agency and principal operations
  • Lead, develop and grow PIL business in the country through formulation and execution of agreed business strategies
  • Deliver the agency scorecard (against agreed KPIs), budget and business plans, ensuring all commercial, operational and financial targets are met
  • Build and take ownership of approved budgets, optimize any financial exposure and assume full P&L responsibilities for all aspects of Agency and Principal operations
  • Evaluate and improve business processes to enhance efficiency
  • Champion standardization and best practices aligned with regional directives
  • Ensure team is optimized from headcount perspective and that all opportunities for business/process improvements are made
  • Foster a high-performance culture through coaching and professional development
  • Build a sustainable talent pipeline and succession plan
  • Ensure full compliance with local tax, labor, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A minimum of 10 years commercial and leadership experience within the container or liner shipping industry is required
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business management, logistics, or a related discipline
  • Comprehensive domain knowledge and expertise in managing the liner shipping business and its entire value chain
  • Advanced proficiency in equipment management, as well as port and terminal operations
  • Demonstrated P&L management experience, with sound understanding of emerging markets
  • Prior experience in sub-Saharan Africa will be considered a significant advantage
  • Full fluency in English and French, coupled with outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong/demonstrable stakeholder management skills with both internal and external parties
