About the role
- As a summer intern, you will be the vital link between the company and widespread interconnection of generation, increase in capacity demand (residential, commercial and industrial) and system reliability improvements in California.
- Your role will be to work alongside experienced engineers to ensure that the company provides excellent service for these projects.
- Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
- Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents.
- Foster teamwork, innovation and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality design products on budget and on time.
- Participate in project walkdown and project meetings.
- Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare SCADA topology at a substation and issue Automation requirements.
- Provide construction drawing reviews.
- Engage and collaborate with vendors on training.
- Determine and issue relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
- Determine and issue IP_DNP addresses for integrated devices on LAN in a substation.
- Program Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).
- Troubleshooting automation equipment malfunctions.
- Assist in supporting new remote access and user authentication applications.
- Store the latest RTU configuration and point list on approved system of records.
- Work with and learn from other departments involved in Substations such as Maintenance, Construction, Distribution Planning, Standards, Protection, Automation, etc.
Requirements
- Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering degree or related discipline at an accredited University.
- Must be continuing their education toward a degree during and/or after the internship
- Desired: EIT or FE certification
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
- Strong programming skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
- Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
- PG&E is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other student visa for this position.
