About the role

  • Involve a senior engineer’s guidance in developing proactive solutions for PG&E’s future.
  • Support the Materials & Failure Analysis teams and electric operations asset management teams.
  • Get hands-on lab work with various materials including steel, aluminum, copper, and ceramics.
  • Assist a senior-level failure analysis engineer with testing, analysis, and writing reports.
  • Perform inspection, analysis, and reporting for the enhanced ignition investigation program.
  • Operate lab equipment including SEM, light microscopes, and FTIR spectroscopy, under technician’s supervision.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement of lab activities with a focus on sample inventory management, lab processes, job aids and safety initiatives.
  • Support miscellaneous engineering/test projects to provide high-value solutions to PG&E business units.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering or other related degrees at an accredited University
  • Must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship
  • Completed Bachelor degree in Engineering and currently pursuing Master degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., material science, mechanical engineering, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge in engineering research and testing concepts, theories, practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Basic investigative skills.
  • Experience working in a lab environment
  • Good organizational and analytical problem solving skills.
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Comfortable with computers: familiar with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
