About the role

  • Supporting senior staff with:
  • Transmission/distribution equipment testing
  • Power system modeling and analysis
  • Power hardware in loop (PHIL) testing
  • Advanced communication and asset health monitoring
  • Distributed energy resource integration
  • Data fusion, analytics, and automation
  • Control hardware in loop (CHIL) testing
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) testing
  • Travel may be required; frequency depends on the assignment and is typically less than 10%.
  • The successful intern will have the opportunity to learn about these activities as described above by working with a team of experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Engineering organization through the work they will be performing.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship
  • EIT or FE certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Experience with utility modeling software such as CYME, PSCAD, RSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF
  • Programming experience including National Instruments Labview, Python, Matlab
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
  • Interest in the Power System Equipment Testing, Power Flow Modeling and Analysis, Test Automation, Controls and Data Acquisition, Engineering Analytics, Power Electronics, Electric Vehicles, and DERs.
