About the role
- Support the maintenance and management of PG&E welding programs for Diablo Canyon nuclear facility, fossil/hydro-generation and gas operations.
- This includes updating and revising PG&E procedures to ensure compliance with latest codes and standards, and developing new procedures as required.
- This also includes developing and qualifying welding procedures for the various weld programs and project applications.
- Provide technical support for welding activities on new equipment installation/design, repair or replacement activities, and fitness-for-service assessments for the various PG&E organizations such as Nuclear, Hydro and Fossil Generation, Electric Operations and Gas Operations.
- Support welding procedure and weld repair development for the fossil and hydro-generation organization on piping, penstock, runners and similar components.
- Work with internal clients to develop and implement new welding technology for welding, repairing, fabrication and inspecting components for power plant, gas transmission, and substation components, parts and structures related to electric power generation and gas and electric distribution and transmission.
- Manage and coordinate small and large welding and inspection related projects for power generation agas and electric distribution and transmission.
- Prepare presentations, reports and proposals for field projects, development work or potential new business.
- Provide welding consulting services to internal and external clients.
- Support review, revisions and development of PG&E and ATS procedures and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
- 5 years of related experience
- Double major in Welding Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working at licensed nuclear facilities, fossil or hydro generation power plants, or gas transmission pipelines.
- Experience developing and qualifying welding procedures, performing welder qualifications, and managing a company welding program.
- Familiarity with common NDE methods, including VT, PT, MT, UT, and RT.
- Knowledge of common arc welding processes, at a minimum GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW, as well as brazing and soldering.
- Experience developing repair solutions for piping and pressure vessels.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including ASME Sections III, IX, and XI; B31.1; B31.3; API 5L; API 1104; and AWS D1.1.
- Current AWS CWI certification.
- Current API 510 certification.
- Knowledge of asset management programs and code-based fitness-for-service assessments.
- Experience managing welding and/or NDE-related projects, including demonstrated ability to direct others, coordinate work activities, develop and track project schedules, and manage budgets.
- Willingness to work overtime to support plant outages and field work.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to generate company procedures, specifications, and guidelines related to welding, fabrication, and inspections.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
