About the role

  • Works with team to set strategy of a sustainable transmission replacement program and to maintain expected levels of reliability
  • Facilitates the development of transmission projects
  • Ensures Project and System support, 24/7 Operational support, and 24/7 Maintenance support by making sure the department has required resources and goals
  • Oversees support for interconnection activities including interfacing with neighboring systems
  • Responsible for ensuring department operations meet regulatory compliance
  • Acts as a Protection SME for national committees and other external entities
  • Determines most effective department metrics to measure performance against annual or longer term goals and objectives
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition
  • Develops and manages department budget, regularly monitoring expenses against forecast, providing explanation or justification for budget items and/or variances

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in System Protection or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of protection engineering experience including previous supervisory experience
  • P.E. License, PMP, Lean Six Sigma
  • 10 years of protection transmission engineering experience including previous supervisory experience
  • Experience with bargaining unit employees, Supervisory experience, Substation, Grid Operations, and Transmission, Commissioning experience, Project Management experience, Leadership Roles in Industry Committees
  • Expertise in electrical engineering concepts, theories and practices preferably transmission engineering
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of electrical circuits, relays and software applications involved in identifying and developing effective protection schemes
  • Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), NERC/CIP, WECC, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and California Independent System Operator (CAISO)
  • Strong project management knowledge and skills to effectively lead diverse teams and complex projects.
