Works with team to set strategy of a sustainable transmission replacement program and to maintain expected levels of reliability
Facilitates the development of transmission projects
Ensures Project and System support, 24/7 Operational support, and 24/7 Maintenance support by making sure the department has required resources and goals
Oversees support for interconnection activities including interfacing with neighboring systems
Responsible for ensuring department operations meet regulatory compliance
Acts as a Protection SME for national committees and other external entities
Determines most effective department metrics to measure performance against annual or longer term goals and objectives
Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition
Develops and manages department budget, regularly monitoring expenses against forecast, providing explanation or justification for budget items and/or variances

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in System Protection or equivalent experience
10 years of protection engineering experience including previous supervisory experience
P.E. License, PMP, Lean Six Sigma
10 years of protection transmission engineering experience including previous supervisory experience
Experience with bargaining unit employees, Supervisory experience, Substation, Grid Operations, and Transmission, Commissioning experience, Project Management experience, Leadership Roles in Industry Committees
Expertise in electrical engineering concepts, theories and practices preferably transmission engineering
Depth and breadth of knowledge of electrical circuits, relays and software applications involved in identifying and developing effective protection schemes
Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), NERC/CIP, WECC, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and California Independent System Operator (CAISO)
Strong project management knowledge and skills to effectively lead diverse teams and complex projects.
