About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the Public Programs department at the Orlando Science Center.
- Oversee the operations for the Public Programming team and ensure high quality programming for OSC visitors.
- Lead a team of Full Time Science Program Interpreters, part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Complete tasks with minimal supervision and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Oversee project development for Full-Time Science Program Interpreters to ensure timely and quality content.
- Report regularly on project progress and oversee budgets and resource allocations as necessary.
- Oversee programming events throughout the year.
- Communicate updates and upcoming events within the organization to staff and visitors.
- Perform regular performance evaluations on team members and volunteers.
- Schedule, hire, and train staff and volunteers for the Public Programming department.
- Ensure all pertinent staff documents and training materials are updated as necessary.
- Ensure website contains accurate programmatic information.
- Manage the supplies and supply budget for the department.
- Represent the Orlando Science Center in a professional manner with all guests and staff.
- Work with Program Specialists to implement grant programming, specialty programming, or training for the Public Programming department.
- Safely operate OSC vehicle when delivering programs offsite.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in science education, biology, chemistry, physical science, physics, astronomy, or museum studies.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching informally and providing exemplary customer service.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of project management and/or direct management experience.
- Strong general science knowledge.
- Employee must have a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Access to reliable, legal transportation that can be driven on behalf of OSC for business purposes.
- Previous experience managing a team (preferred).
- Theatrical skills and/or experience performing improv (preferred).
- Experience speaking in front of large audiences (desirable).
- Experience developing curriculum for informal science education facilities (preferred).
- Background and experience in planetarium, observatory, animal handling, chemistry labs, physics labs, nursing simulators, STEM, inquiry-based learning projects, theatre management, and volunteer management (preferred).
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office Software (preferred).
