About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and direction of the department nurse manager
  • Operate partly as a Health Unit Coordinator
  • Assist with admitting and discharging patients
  • Obtain vital signs and patient weights
  • Gather and secure patient valuables
  • Complete ED tech documentation in the medical record
  • Perform 12-lead EKGs
  • Prepare wounds, apply simple dressings, and perform orthopedic splinting as directed
  • Mobilize, lift, transfer, turn, position, and transport patients safely
  • Collect and test blood, urine, stool, and other specimens
  • Assist patients with toileting, hygiene, comfort, dietary, and emotional-support needs
  • Record intake and output and perform postmortem care
  • Respond to call lights, monitor patients and equipment alarms, and report observations or needs
  • Apply, observe, and document restraints or seclusion safely
  • Assist RNs, physicians, and other healthcare team members
  • Maintain patient-care areas, clean equipment, and distribute linen and supplies
  • Transport specimens, equipment, and medications
  • Order supplies and stock patient rooms, resuscitation rooms, IV carts, GYN/ENT/laceration carts
  • Disinfect or discard equipment and supplies appropriately
  • Assist with Emergency Department quality assurance activities and administrative operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One year recent experience (within the past 5 years) providing patient care in an emergency department or similar setting
  • EMT, CNA or MA certification, or equivalent education
  • BLS upon hire
  • Phlebotomy certification or equivalent experience
  • Ability to provide care to patients across the age continuum, from infants to geriatric patients
  • Ability to work variable night shifts, with days and start times varying according to operational needs
  • Must complete drug testing
