About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Engineer hardware and software technology platforms supporting OHSU network and data communications systems
  • Integrate technology platforms into the OHSU environment, including interfaces, management control, and fail-over
  • Design, implement, and maintain high-availability infrastructure
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain monitoring software applications
  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance solutions
  • Support security solution design, development, engineering, and implementation
  • Serve as technical leader for complex development projects
  • Prepare system proposals, design documentation, requirements traceability, and system descriptions
  • Develop disaster response plans and recovery procedures
  • Design, architect, and implement data center spaces, infrastructure, and networks
  • Analyze production systems for performance, utilization, capacity, and optimization opportunities
  • Automate operational functions using Python, REST API, and DevOps methodologies
  • Develop patch management processes and apply operating system updates and upgrades
  • Administer accounts and Active Directory/LDAP environments
  • Install, configure, monitor, and support operating systems and network infrastructure
  • Provide Level 3 on-call support for large mission-critical systems in 24x7 production environments
  • Develop and maintain backup schedules, recovery procedures, scripts, and technical documentation
  • Support unit, integration, load, performance, system, and migration testing
  • Coordinate vendors and ITG work units on Network Services projects
  • Participate in project kick-off, implementation, support, and milestone meetings
  • Implement security best practices, risk assessments, intrusion prevention/detection, audits, investigations, and mitigation techniques

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or related field, and three years of progressively responsible IT experience; or approved alternative education/professional certification and seven years of documented professional experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience independently designing, implementing, and supporting new systems and infrastructure
  • Experience with formal project management methods such as Waterfall or Agile
  • Experience supporting large mission-critical systems in 24x7 multiple-production environments
  • 3 years working with Cisco or Juniper systems
  • Experience with TCP/IP and other networking protocols
  • Crash analysis and troubleshooting experience
  • Application installation and configuration experience
  • Understanding of Microsoft Networks at operating-system, file/directory-security, and user-account levels
  • Enterprise systems administration experience, including UNIX and Microsoft systems, and scripting
  • Expert knowledge of network architectures, topologies, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, routing protocols, network management tools, security toolsets, and change-control processes
  • Working knowledge of VMware NSX, power systems, legacy technology, QoS, MPLS, IP telephony, network storage, server clusters, web infrastructure, and directory services
  • Experience with Python, REST API, PowerShell, or related scripting/programming languages
  • Within six months of hire, obtain one or more current industry certifications for active network components, such as Cisco CCNA or Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS
  • Ability to work on-call, including some weekend and non-standard business hours
