About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership, department management, and project execution oversight for structural engineering work on a variety of heavy industrial and infrastructure projects
- Schedule, organize, direct, and review all structural engineering department resources and activities to support safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.
- Participate in the development of new and expansion of existing business opportunities
- Provide enhanced customer support as a technical liaison and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource
- Hire staff, establish individual goals and expectations, and conduct performance reviews
- Direct, develop, supervise, and provide technical guidance to all direct reports
- Establish and execute operational plans for the structural engineering department with respect to staffing, workload planning, tools, resources, and development of technical skill sets
- Develop and implement policies, standards, procedures, and quality control practices for structural engineering and technical work performed in the department
- Lead projects with a variety of durations, prioritizing both long-term planning, as well as provide leadership in a fast-paced engineering environment requiring expedited turnaround.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline with a structural emphasis
- PE license is required
- Minimum of ten years of prior relevant engineering experience is required, with preference given to individuals exposed to heavy industrial environments and marketplaces
- Technical knowledge and/or expertise in multiple areas of structural engineering including, but not limited to structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, foundations, pipe supports, equipment supports, platforms, access structures, industrial buildings, and applicable structural design codes and standards
- Successful experience in leadership roles managing engineering teams and/or engineering departments is also required, preferably in a consulting engineering environment
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills with clients and engineering personnel
- Candidates should have a thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including business enterprise and project management tools, as well as structural analysis, design, drafting, and document review tools.
