About the role
- Coordinates policies and procedures and oversees the implementation of teaching, research and clinical programs within the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes
- Has authority over the business affairs, funds, and resources of the division and aligns division activities with Department, School of Medicine, and University policies
- Represents the division within the Department and the School of Medicine, and the University of Colorado, providing communication and networking
- Largely financially focused role requiring strong financial acumen
- Serves as the staff representative on the division’s Leadership Team; collaborates and builds solutions to operational and financial matters and advocates for staff and resources
- In conjunction with the Division Head, knows, understands, and advocates for top division-related priorities to the Department of Medicine, UCH partners, and the SOM Dean’s Office
- Drives performance through engagement, commitment, collaboration, and teamwork for division leadership, staff, and administrators
- Fiscal responsibility and management of all funds including state, federal, auxiliary, gift, endowment, grant and contract funds, and CU MEDICINE/clinical funds
- Manages financial aspects of operations and staffing, faculty recruitment, and short- and long-term planning
- Prepares budgets, controls, and regularly monitors revenue and expenditure activity for each source of funds
- Administers policies, rules, and regulations from federal, state, University, CU MEDICINE, and other sources
- Administers and coordinates regulations and standards related to business management, clinical, research and educational administration
- Coordinates personnel matters including position establishment, recruitment, hiring, supervision of staff, performance planning and appraisal, and termination processes
- Participates in planning activities for the division, including long and short-range planning
- Works with the Division Head and faculty as needed to analyze and report existing and new programs and ventures to interested parties
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, healthcare administration, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
- Five (5) years of professional management experience that includes direct responsibility for financial administration, policy coordination, and personnel management
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire
- Master’s degree preferred (accounting/business/health care management, finance, or closely related field)
- Financial, administrative, and supervisory experience in a university or healthcare setting preferred
- Prior experience with the University’s PeopleSoft finance and human resources management system preferred
- Prior experience in managing clinical and/or grant revenue preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Strong financial management skills and comprehensive understanding of academic medical institution financial structure and operational standards
- Demonstrated ability to manage funds from a variety of sources and financial management software
- Ability to prepare and present analytical assessments and reports
- Excellence in establishing work priorities, providing follow-through, and meeting established deadlines
- Ability to successfully plan, organize, implement, and coordinate financial and administrative activities in a diverse and complicated system
- Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff and assign or reorganize tasks to meet the Division’s overall strategic goals
