About the role
- Responsible for the ongoing build, maintenance, and support of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory’s (CMOCO) and Colorado Genetics Laboratory’s (CGL) Information System (LIS).
- System administration, troubleshooting issues, testing for upgrades and patches, processing reports requests, interface testing, change control documentation, and analysis for process improvements.
- Main point of contact with the LIS vendor for system support and maintenance.
- Maintain dictionaries in the LIS.
- Create users in the LIS with appropriate roles.
- Maintain and manage security roles within the LIS.
- Test and validate new releases/patches/updates of the LIS.
- Edit reports and user interface for faculty and staff.
- Engage in workflows, reporting and data elements for new assay validations.
- Work with vendors to troubleshoot issues.
- Assist laboratory staff with CAP requirements related to the LIS.
- Test and maintain interfaces between the LIS including (but not limited to) ADT, ordering, results, and billing interfaces.
- Process report requests.
- Maintain change control processes and documentation including troubleshooting manuals and knowledge bases.
- Work to optimize system workflows and clinical report formatting.
- Define data elements needed for ongoing laboratory management.
- Analyze and make recommendations to help support continuous improvement and best practices.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
- A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
- Previous experience working in an academic medicine environment
- Ability to prioritize workflow, and advise others in their decisions
- Ability to escalate issues to supervisors, or request assistance from other technical staff/partners
- Demonstrated ability to act independently and to maintain positive working relationships.
- High level of professionalism and ability to manage workload in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Demonstrated competence in communicating both verbally and in writing.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
