About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Contribute to the overall design and product direction of OpenAI products
Design and ship products and improvements from early concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and visuals
Partner with engineering, product management, research, and design peers on long-term strategy and short-term tactics
Engage in user research to understand software developers and refine products
Contribute to and evolve the design system
Help establish design culture and grow the team
Collaborate with engineers and researchers to bring cutting-edge capabilities to developers
Work on end-to-end design of new features and improvements across Codex products

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong technical background and recently shipped code to production
Portfolio showcasing strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills
High bar for quality and craft
Enjoys 0 -> 1 environments and can navigate ambiguity
Strong product intuition and design thinking for technical trade-offs
Interest in AI research and AI-first product design
Impactful communication and storytelling skills
Prior experience with research or developer-focused products or workflows (bonus)
Shipped side projects with AI or contributed to open-source AI tools (bonus)
Able to work from the US office three days per week
