About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish a high standard for craft across OpenAI’s youth and education experiences
  • Lead end-to-end design for products helping young people use AI safely, confidently, and productively
  • Design age-appropriate experiences for safety, age assurance, and sensitive high-trust interactions
  • Shape zero-to-one K–12 experiences for school districts, educators, classrooms, collaborative work, and builder-style workflows
  • Turn emerging ideas into concepts, prototypes, and high-fidelity product experiences
  • Partner with research, engineering, product, safety, policy, and design
  • Balance user needs, technical capabilities, and responsible deployment
  • Conduct and apply research with young people, educators, institutions, and relevant partners
  • Develop reusable patterns and principles across youth and education products

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Staff-level product design experience
  • Exceptional interaction and visual design craft
  • Deep product and systems thinking
  • Experience leading substantial, ambiguous, or zero-to-one product areas
  • Ability to design for sensitive, high-trust, or safety-critical contexts
  • Ability to create engaging and intuitive products without compromising safety or clarity
  • Ability to navigate needs of young people, educators, administrators, and institutional partners
  • Ability to communicate clearly and build cross-disciplinary alignment
  • Ability to remain hands-on throughout product development
  • Ability to work from the US office three days per week
  • Authorization to work in the country where the job is located
