About the role
- Lead and scale multi-squad engineering efforts across multiple delivery threads or product areas, ensuring alignment, consistency, and measurable impact.
- Set and drive a unified technical vision for the next-generation Student Learning Space (SLS).
- Establish and enforce engineering standards and best practices across squads, balancing innovation with maintainability, security, and performance.
- Coach and develop Tech Leads and Engineering Managers (for Senior EMs), fostering strong leadership, technical excellence, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Foster cross-squad collaboration and knowledge sharing, breaking down silos to accelerate delivery and improve system coherence.
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to align technical strategies with product goals and educational outcomes.
- Oversee vendor and in-house engineering teams, ensuring high-quality deliverables and effective integration across systems.
- Balance innovation and operational excellence, driving both transformative initiatives and essential BAU enhancements.
- Make strategic technical and architectural decisions that serve MOE’s long-term vision and sustainability goals.
- Ensure the engineering organisation remains lean, focused, and adaptable, scaling effectively as platform needs evolve.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3–5 years in engineering leadership roles.
- Proven ability to lead multiple teams or managers, delivering large-scale, high-impact systems or platforms.
- Strong technical foundation with experience in modern architectures (e.g. cloud-native, microservices, CI/CD, DevOps).
- Skilled at setting technical direction, driving engineering standards, and balancing delivery with quality.
- Track record of growing and empowering managers and senior engineers, and building high-performing teams.
- Effective collaborator with Product, Design, and business partners to align engineering outcomes with strategic goals.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
