Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist
Open Farm PetBoard-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist at Open Farm ensuring quality pet food formulations. Collaborate with R&D and marketing teams to optimize recipes and educate consumers.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate and approve recipes to ensure they are nutritionally balanced, safe, and effective.
- Ensure all products align with Open Farm’s recipe standards and ingredient quality requirements.
- Provide guidance on pet food formulation for dry, wet, treats, and canned products.
- Maintain proper documentation and records for nutritional adequacy, feeding guidelines, and label compliance.
- Assist with elevated pet parent inquiries requiring veterinary expertise.
- Collaborate with our Pet Parent Experience (PPX) team to ensure product recommendations are informed by veterinary expertise.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to educate consumers on pet nutrition.
- Support advertising and promotional claims with sound nutritional evidence.
- Partner with FSQA, Legal, and Regulatory teams to meet labeling and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with AAFCO, USDA, FDA, and FSMA standards.
- Work with Purchasing and QA teams to ensure ingredient nutritional quality.
- Help maintain high safety and quality standards across all pet food products.
- Develop a long-term view on how Open Farm can conduct and support pet nutrition research that aligns with our business and innovation goals, and can ultimately be leveraged to strengthen the brand.
Requirements
What you’ll need- DVM and Board Certification by ACVN (American College of Veterinary Nutrition) or ECVCN (European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition).
- Extensive knowledge of dog and cat nutrition and related sciences.
- Experience in pet food recipe development (dry, wet, treats, canned) is preferred.
- Familiarity with dry food manufacturing processes and operations is a plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both technical and consumer-facing content.
- Passionate about educating and training pet parents about all thing's pet nutrition.
