About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the ANZ Zone Science team covering regulatory and medical activities
- Lead and develop the ANZ Science team, coaching team members and embedding a challenger mindset
- Contribute to the Opella ANZ Leadership Team and AMEA Region Science Leadership Team
- Support business leaders with medical and regulatory expertise, sound judgment, and business acumen
- Partner with local B&I and R&D teams to support growth of global and local brands
- Evaluate and define portfolio approaches for medical value creation initiatives
- Set science-team performance metrics and execute local medical brand plans aligned with global medical strategy
- Develop product science superiority, mode-of-action, medical safety and efficacy data, and simplified scientific communications
- Identify evidence gaps and develop and execute evidence-generation strategies, including lab testing, in vitro, in vivo, RWE, consumer research, and clinical studies
- Generate scientifically backed claims and engage and influence healthcare professionals
- Provide medical support throughout the innovation process, including concept development, evidence generation, claims, clinical studies, product registration dossiers, and pre-launch engagement plans
- Ensure regulatory compliance with Health Authority requirements and develop risk-mitigation recommendations
- Develop and execute regulatory strategies for new product innovations and brand lifecycle activities
- Shape local business strategy through zone input and external advocacy with local trade associations
- Build a fast-acting, collaborative, outcome-focused, risk-taking, and innovative Science culture
- Align medical and regulatory science strategies with business priorities and brand strategies
- Manage risks and opportunities and build mitigation action plans
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Life Science
- Demonstrated medical credibility and expertise in product science, science superiority, mode of action, and medical safety/efficacy data
- Proven success shaping scientific strategy and guiding evidence generation, including lab, in vivo, RWE, consumer research, and clinical studies
- Familiarity with the latest clinical guidelines
- Expert knowledge of drug and VMS regulations and requirements
- Knowledge of Health Authority regulations and ability to assess their impact on marketed products
- Ability to navigate regulatory approval pathways for innovation
- Knowledge of the local Consumer Health environment, regulatory context, industry associations, and public and government affairs
- Demonstrated business acumen, agility, adaptability, and resilience
- Success partnering and influencing across a matrix environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and influence skills
- Leadership experience developing teams, setting objectives, measuring achievement, and supporting career development
- Ability to lead transversally across ANZ, regional, and global science functions
