About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide expert underwriting guidance and support title operations
Review and respond promptly and courteously to underwriting questions
Assist Title Examiners with title worksheet and title commitment questions
Mentor Junior Underwriters on title underwriting and industry standards
Provide exceptional customer service and maintain relationships with approved attorney customers
Collaborate with underwriting colleagues to evaluate complex risks and ensure compliance with authority and guidelines
Communicate underwriting concerns to management
Support sales representatives in strengthening customer relationships
Complete required compliance training and follow company policies and regulatory requirements
Review recorded documents and assess ownership interests, legal descriptions, and title matters
Serve as liaison among customers, attorneys, escrow agents, and lenders throughout transactions
Partner with Agency Services, Escrow, National Commercial Services, and other departments
Underwrite and service title insurance transactions throughout Illinois
Review, underwrite, and issue commercial title commitments, policies, and endorsements as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experienced Senior Underwriter/Officer
Must possess Illinois underwriting experience
Must be able to work a hybrid schedule out of one of the 10 Chicagoland office locations
Knowledge of title underwriting and industry standards
Ability to evaluate complex risks
Ability to ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
Experience reviewing deeds, deeds of trust, mechanic’s liens, tax liens, judgments, probate records, surveys, and other recorded documents
Ability to assess ownership interests, legal descriptions, and matters affecting title
Ability to underwrite and service title insurance transactions throughout Illinois
Ability to review, underwrite, and issue commercial title commitments, policies, and endorsements
