About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide receptionist and clerical support to assure patient flow, comfort, and satisfaction
  • Greet patients, initiate paperwork, complete registration, verify insurance, collect co-payments and outstanding balances, and establish payment plans
  • Correct registration errors in electronic medical record work queues
  • Process electronic and manual insurance verification and obtain pre-authorizations when necessary
  • Obtain necessary paperwork from physician offices and other third parties
  • Update electronic or paper patient charts, obtain signatures, file paperwork, and notify clinical associates of patient arrival
  • Answer and direct calls using a multi-line computerized phone system
  • Provide general office and clerical support, including faxing documentation and completing disability, FMLA, attorney request, record release, and industrial forms
  • Work industrial claims in the electronic medical record system
  • Organize and file patient charts, including scanning and uploading information into the EMR
  • Attend staff meetings and continuing in-house education seminars
  • Sort, distribute, and mail transcription
  • Order and stock office supplies
  • Keep office equipment clean and well-maintained
  • Provide support to staff members as assigned
  • Perform duties with focus on safety, quality, and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–2 years of previous secretarial experience in healthcare or a medical office, or 1–2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills
  • Experience with computerized phone systems
  • Experience scheduling patient appointments in an electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Data entry and patient information processing skills
  • Insurance verification and pre-authorization processing knowledge
  • Strong organization and motivation
  • Customer-service orientation
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work a day shift for 40 scheduled hours weekly
