About the role
- Support the backend of the My HealtheVet (MHV) platform — a secure VA system providing Veterans access to health information and services
- Manage cloud-hosted databases and ensure production systems run smoothly
- Support data integrations with external systems and backend integrations (REST, SOAP, HL7)
- Perform backups, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting in production environments
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, and security teams; maintain clear documentation
- Work within a high-security federal healthcare program and comply with data security standards
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience working with databases in a backend or infrastructure role
- Solid SQL and basic scripting experience (e.g., Python or Bash)
- Comfortable working in AWS environment (prefer experience with LiquidBase)
- Familiarity with APIs, data flows, and backend integrations (REST, SOAP, HL7)
- Good troubleshooting skills and a desire to learn — especially in a complex, high-security environment
- Experience with backups, performance monitoring, and managing data in production systems
- Clear communication and documentation skills; able to collaborate with developers, analysts, and security teams
- Exposure to VA systems, healthcare data, or federal environments
- Experience with Oracle, InterSystems IRIS / HealthShare, or MUMPS
- Familiarity with DevOps tooling: Git, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes
- Knowledge of data security standards and PHI/PII handling
- Must be a US Citizen and able to work domestically
- Must be able to attain low-level security clearance
