About the role
- Lead administration and architecture oversight of enterprise relational databases including Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL within secure production and cloud-hosted environments.
- Design and optimize database performance strategies, including advanced SQL query tuning, indexing strategies, and resource optimization.
- Architect and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring resilient backup and recovery capabilities.
- Oversee patching, vulnerability remediation, and STIG compliance activities aligned with RMF, IAVM, and federal cybersecurity frameworks.
- Define and enforce database security models, access controls, and RBAC configurations to ensure secure and auditable operations.
- Collaborate with ETL developers, platform administrators, and data engineers to improve data pipelines, integration workflows, and overall platform performance.
- Support modernization efforts, including cloud migrations, performance enhancements, and automation initiatives within secure delivery environments.
- Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance on database standards, performance best practices, and operational procedures.
- Contribute to Agile and DevSecOps practices to ensure database environments remain hardened, scalable, and accreditable.
Requirements
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. In alignment with federal contract requirements, certain roles may also require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation and/or a security clearance.
- Advanced hands-on experience administering enterprise databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL in production environments.
- Deep expertise in database performance tuning, monitoring, and complex SQL optimization.
- Experience designing and supporting high-availability and disaster recovery strategies.
- Strong familiarity with federal cybersecurity practices including STIGs, RMF, vulnerability remediation, and compliance-driven operations.
- Experience supporting cloud-hosted database environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud, EC2, or managed database services).
- Ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate across cross-functional engineering and security teams.
- Strong communication skills and experience operating within Agile delivery environments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
