About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist patients and the health system in all aspects related to accounts receivable management and financial reporting by analyzing data.
  • Handle patient billing questions, complaints, and inquiries.
  • Offer alternative solutions and explain financial impacts.
  • Communicate, reconcile, adjust and collect receivables from the customers.
  • Research deferred patient inquiries and legal requests for resolution of inquiries.
  • Communicate and keep record of all resolved and unresolved issues with the leadership department and departmental leadership team.
  • Serve as a liaison between the patients, providers of health care services, external departments, or other responsible parties to perform account and chart reviews.
  • Provide routine support with ongoing staff training/coaching.
  • Assist leadership with special projects developed around educating staff members.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years’ of direct healthcare experience; OR additional education can be substituted for experience
  • Computer skills required for data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software packages specific to role
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology utilized in medical billing including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases Codes (ICD-10 and ICD-9)
  • Knowledge of record keeping using an automated system and/or health care billing including Medicaid, Medicare, or other third party payers
  • Knowledge of public and private sources of assistance and methods of qualifying for funding
  • Knowledge of collection laws, regulations and techniques; current office practices and procedures
