About the role

  • O’Hagan Meyer is seeking a Litigation Associate with 3-5 years of experience to join its New York, NY office (fully remote).
  • This attorney should have significant experience handling all aspects of complex and sophisticated litigation from inception to resolution, including researching and writing legal memoranda, drafting pleadings, substantive motions and written discovery, written and oral arguments, taking and defending depositions, preparing for trial and settlement negotiations.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of litigation experience, including researching and writing legal memoranda, drafting pleadings, substantive motions and written discovery, developing litigation strategy, conducting large-scale document reviews and productions, preparing for trial or arbitration, working directly with clients, communicating with opposing counsel and second-chairing trials, depositions and/or evidentiary hearings. Trial experience is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with directors’ and officers’ cases (co-op disputes, breach of contract, business judgment cases), employment litigation, class actions, mass torts and financial services litigation.
  • This role requires excellent writing and analytical skills as well as the ability to draft persuasive, clear and effective pleadings, discovery, motions, briefs, memoranda, mediation statements, orders and settlement agreements.
  • This attorney should have strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have the confidence and demeanor to build relationships with the Firm’s current clients, as well as the drive and ability to develop additional client relationships and business.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required for the role. The ideal candidate will be able to efficiently manage multiple matters at a time and produce exceptional work product under tight deadlines.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team, but also possess the experience, skills and confidence to step into a leadership role.
  • This attorney must demonstrate a drive for excellence and a willingness to take the initiative to solve problems. The ideal candidate will be an ambitious and highly motivated attorney who always strives to achieve the best possible result for the client.
  • This role requires an attorney who is detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Strong academic background and excellent writing skills required.
  • Experience with both state and federal courts preferred. Appellate experience a plus.
  • This position will require some local travel for court appearances, mediations, arbitrations, site inspections and depositions.
  • The billing requirement is 1,900 hours per year. Annual bonuses are given for hours billed in excess of this minimum requirement.
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required. Federal court admission is a plus.
