About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

  • Partner on professional staff recruiting, onboarding, engagement, development, retention, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Advise on complex employee matters.
  • Conduct or oversee investigations.
  • Manage disciplinary and separation processes.
  • Support a respectful, high-performing workplace culture.
  • Maintain compliant HR practices across jurisdictions.
  • Update and communicate policies.
  • Manage employment documentation and confidential information.
  • Oversee HR systems, records, payroll and benefits coordination, office-manager support, and HR metrics.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Firm leadership, attorneys, and administrative professionals.
  • Establish consistent HR practices across the Firm.
  • Lead initiatives related to employee relations, performance management, professional staff development, policy, compliance, investigations, HR operations, and organizational effectiveness.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience in a law firm or comparable professional-services environment required.
  • Experience supporting a large, complex, multi-office organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, employee relations, investigations, performance management, disciplinary processes, terminations, and severance matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on sensitive personnel matters and translate HR data into practical recommendations.
  • Experience developing HR policies, programs, systems, and processes across multiple locations.
  • ADP or comparable HRIS/payroll systems experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; advanced education or HR certification a plus.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, communication, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to work four days per week in the Firm’s Chicago office.
