About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Promptly and fairly settle no-fault claims
- Manage claim processes, including coverage verification, investigation, evaluation, and claim disposition in compliance with insurance regulations and NYCM best practices
- Verify policy coverage, eligibility, exclusions, Workers Compensation coverage, out-of-state coverage, and subrogation recovery opportunities
- Reserve claims accurately based on potential exposure and injuries sustained
- Identify fraud indicators, discuss them with EFW, and refer applicable files to SIU
- Conduct thorough claim investigations and gather information for resolution
- Process payments and denials according to investigations, policy coverage, and regulations
- Manage cycle times and customer experience through file review and timely processing
- Determine loss-of-earnings reimbursement claims
- Assess the need for independent medical examinations using IME criteria and claim analysis
- Testify in court
- Communicate professionally with customers by phone and in writing
- Guide claimants through all stages of the claim process
- Manage customer concerns and complaints and execute resolution plans
- Manage daily workload and maintain current claim files
- Maintain accurate payment worksheets and claim information
- Maintain knowledge of insurance best practices, regulations, standards, guidance documents, and internal procedures
- Participate in insurance-related education regarding fraud trends
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent, with related experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions
- Full working knowledge and understanding of basic insurance principles and policies, claims procedures, regulations, and best practices
- Good personal computer skills, including electronic mail, record keeping, claims systems, and Mitchell DecisionPoint
- Understanding of medical injuries and how they relate to claim file management
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team or independently without direct supervision
- Willingness and ability to engage in authentic conversations
- Good written and verbal communication skills and active listening
