About the role
- The Process Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement of systems, processes, and product quality within the Coatings Department, including the Pickle Line and Galvanize Lines.
- This role focuses on improving safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance through data-driven analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on problem solving.
- The Process Engineer works closely with Operations, Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, and Quality teams to identify opportunities, implement solutions, and sustain improvements.
- This position will work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including weekends and holidays as business conditions warrant.
- Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM discipline
- Initiative: Proactively identifies process, quality, safety, or reliability issues without being directed. Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to resolution.
- Teamwork: Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal. Works effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams.
- Organizing, Planning, & Prioritizing Work: Focuses efforts on issues with the highest safety, quality, or business impact. Meets deadlines while managing multiple projects or requests.
- Communication: Communicates clearly and professionally with all levels of the organization. Explains technical concepts in a way operators and supervisors can understand.
- Accountability & Dependability: Holds self and others to safety, quality, and performance standards. Delivers results aligned with department and company expectations.
- Problem Solving & Judgment/Decision Making: Uses data and structured methods to identify root causes. Evaluates multiple solutions and selects the most effective and sustainable option.
- Attention to Detail: Ensures process changes are implemented as intended. Accurately analyzes process data, reports, and trends.
- Preferences: Previous pickling/galvanizing process improvement experience.
