About the role
- Setting up, configuring, and maintaining databases to ensure optimal performance and availability
- Performing performance tuning and optimization of database systems to meet application and business requirements
- Ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with internal and external standards
- Monitoring database health, performing regular backups, and implementing disaster recovery strategies
- Collaborating with development and infrastructure teams to support application deployments and troubleshoot database-related issues
- Writing and maintaining scripts for automation of routine database tasks
- Managing user access, roles, and permissions in accordance with security policies
- Documenting database configurations, procedures, and best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in a similar role
- Hands-on experience with at least one of the following databases: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Exposure to automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) for database provisioning (desirable)
- Knowing two or more DB’s is a plus
- Experience with high availability DB solutions is highly desirable
- Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance dashboards (desirable)
- Solid understanding of database architecture, indexing, query optimization, and backup/recovery strategies
- Familiarity with security best practices for database environments
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database performance and connectivity issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- A proactive and detail-oriented mindset with a focus on reliability and efficiency
- Certifications in database technologies (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, PostgreSQL) are a plus
- Excellent command of both spoken and written English.
