About the role

  • The Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer is responsible for designing, automating, and maintaining cloud configuration, release, and infrastructure management processes across GTA’s AWS environments.
  • Ensures highly available, secure, compliant, and well-governed cloud platforms through effective automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), patch management, backup strategy, and certificate governance.
  • Works closely with DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams to support stable, reliable statewide services.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains configuration management processes, policies, and standards for AWS environments.
  • Builds, deploys, and enhances Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform to automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of AWS resources (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM).
  • Manages and optimizes multiple environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Prod) ensuring configuration consistency and security.
  • Supports automation pipelines using the AWS Code Suite: Code Commit, Code Build, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline.
  • Designs and maintains automated AWS backup solutions to ensure data integrity, resiliency, and compliance with state retention policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent professional training, certification, or experience
  • Eight (8) years of configuration management experience
  • Proficiency with Terraform and IaC methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM)
  • Experience with cloud backup solutions and automated patching
  • Expertise in SSL/TLS certificate management and security best practices
  • Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation within AWS/Terraform preferred
  • AWS Certification(s) and/or Terraform Certification preferred
  • Experience working with state or local government environments preferred
  • Experience with vendor oversight or management preferred
  • Experience with project management or Agile delivery tools preferred
  • Experience with organizational change management (OCM) preferred
