About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform financial statement spreading, underwriting, and credit analysis for commercial lending and commercial loan portfolio management
- Complete credit memos for new money requests to new and existing borrowers
- Support Portfolio Management by completing annual reviews, renewals, change memos, and modifications
- Prepare timely, high-quality credit analyses and recommendations evaluating credit strengths and weaknesses
- Assess credits and finalize Opportunity Memos for presentation; participate in OM calls
- Analyze financial statements, industry risk, loan structure, and market conditions to assess creditworthiness and repayment ability
- Use financial spreading software and financial analysis tools to evaluate cash flow and repayment sources
- Conduct underwriting, identify credit risks, analyze repayment capacity, and prepare collateral coverage narratives
- Recommend credit structuring, documentation, and risk controls; determine underwriting and due diligence requirements
- Complete underwriting within expected service levels and turnaround times
- Participate in business calls with commercial lending and credit administration teams
- Maintain knowledge of macroeconomic issues in local markets and regional industries
- Maintain data integrity in the underwriting platform
- Manage compliance and audit-related matters within the area of responsibility
- Monitor workflows and procedures and suggest revisions to improve efficiency and minimize expenses
- Identify potential credit losses and mitigate risk
- Use risk-rating models to determine credit request risk ratings
- Evaluate guarantors using personal financial statements and tax returns
- Perform loan covenant testing and update covenant compliance records
- Review loan documentation for accuracy
- Provide training and support for new analysts
- Ensure compliance with Northwest policies, procedures, and Federal/State regulations
- Navigate Microsoft Office, computer applications, and department-specific software
- Work as part of a team and with on-site equipment
- Perform other related duties, projects, special-team assignments, and educational training as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, accounting, finance, or another related discipline
- 3–5 years of relevant commercial lending or credit administration experience
- Experience specifically related to CRE and C&I lending
- Ability to perform financial statement spreading, underwriting, and credit analysis
- Ability to analyze borrower cash flow, repayment sources, collateral coverage, and credit risk
- Knowledge of commercial credit policy, banking rules, regulations, compliance, and audit matters
- Ability to use financial spreading software, Microsoft Office, computer applications, and department-specific software
- Ability to evaluate guarantors using personal financial statements and tax returns
- Ability to perform loan covenant testing and maintain compliance records
- Ability to review loan documentation for accuracy
- Ability to work with on-site equipment and as part of a team
