Enables children, youth, adults, seniors and families to develop skills, become engaged in the community, live healthy lifestyles and participate in recreation opportunities through direct program coordination and facilitation
Accountable for delivery of programs and customer service under the guidance of the Supervisor, Recreation Services
Facilitate and lead program activities such as sports, games, crafts, workshops, camps, skill/certification based courses, on-line programming and special events for all ages and abilities
Complete quarterly/session program reports detailing program attendance, program successes and outcomes including recommendations for future or repeat programming
Liaise with Recreation Coordinators to ensure programming is adapted to participant needs to support an inclusive environment
Maintain program attendance records and statistics and assist with marketing existing and new programs
Participate in the delivery of special events offered by Norfolk County
Prepare and organize program plans for new or existing programs and ensure required equipment and supplies are available
Purchase necessary supplies and equipment
Liaise with community partners and interdepartmental divisions regarding community events/initiatives
Provide on-site customer service during events and rentals
Provide general administration including balancing daily cash and completing deposit reports, when applicable
Provide front-line customer service at the Simcoe Recreation Centre Front Desk: respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries, process registrations, issue memberships, process requests for rentals and facility booking, handle complaints and provide information on upcoming events
Serve as a liaison with participants and/or parents of participants, reinforcing Norfolk County’s customer service, diversity and inclusion
Adhere to all Norfolk County policies and procedures and maintain positive relationships with fellow staff
Participate in orientation, training sessions and seasonal program planning
Assist with ongoing programs or Divisional projects and perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements
Grade 12, plus a minimum two-year diploma in Recreation, Physical Education or related discipline
Over two up to and including three years of experience in a facilitative programming role
Valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle including the ability to provide a driver’s abstract when requested during the recruitment process
Experience in a Municipal setting, working with pre-school, child, youth, adults and older adults preferred
HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development
HIGH FIVE Quest 2 Certification (considered an asset)
HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development Trainer (considered an asset)
HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Aging (considered an asset)
Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification
Computer expertise in Corporate Standard Software (MS Office applications)
Knowledge of Recreation Management Software, preferably XPLOR/PerfectMind (considered an asset)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal, communication, time management, and problem solving skills
Ability to work in a team environment and follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision
Must be motivated and able to work outside in all weather; daytime, evening and weekend shifts required
Awareness of safe work practices and basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
