About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manages the Deferred Compensation Plans for Nordstrom employees and Nordstrom Board of Directors, including overseeing Fidelity Executive Services (FES) as part of the DCP program
- Supports smooth and effective operation of Nordstrom's 401(k) Plan, including leading the annual audit and non-discrimination testing
- Manages communication, education, and compliance for Nordstrom's Merchandise Discount Program
- Serves as the Healthy Wallet communications lead, developing and coordinating benefits communications for 401(k), DCP, and Discount programs in partnership with Healthy Mind & Body, Healthy Time Away, vendor partners, Nordstrom Internal Communications, and Nordstrom Internal Marketing
- Participates in and sometimes leads key projects and initiatives such as RFPs, fund changes, plan design reviews, recommendations, and corrections
- Effectively partners, consults, and collaborates with cross-functional teams, including other Benefits Plan Owners, Legal, ERISA counsel, Finance, Treasury, External Reporting, and Strategic Sourcing, to accomplish objectives
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert for Nordstrom's Healthy Wallet programs and as a point of escalation for complex participant questions or issues escalated from vendor partners, HR Business Partners, Nordstrom Legal, and the Nordstrom Employee Care Center
- Ensures programs remain competitive, inclusive, legally compliant, and aligned with Nordstrom's Total Rewards philosophy and business needs
- Interprets and administers Healthy Wallet programs in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Stays informed about changes in legislation and regulations; attends conferences, seminars, and webinars to stay current on retirement plan trends and best practices
- Ensures plan documents and processes are current and accurately reflect plan rules and operations
- Manages third-party vendor relationships to ensure best-in-class delivery of services, including tracking and communication of performance guarantees and service level agreements
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of benefits experience
- 3+ years of retirement benefits experience
- Understanding of ERISA, HIPAA, 409A, and other IRS and DOL requirements impacting employee benefit plans
- Experience with trust accounting, institutional investment operations, non-discrimination testing, and Form 5500
- Experience analyzing and interpreting data and creating effective and engaging presentations
- Experience developing and delivering benefits communications, including partnering with internal communications or marketing teams
- Experience working with Workday is preferred
- Strong ability to manage multiple competing priorities and execute in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work effectively and independently in a team environment
- Effective collaboration skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to and influencing senior leaders
- Ability to manage sensitive information with a high level of professional discretion and confidentiality
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Bachelor's degree and/or benefit or human resources certification preferred (CEBS, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SCP)
