Senior Project Engineer – New Power Generation Construction
NiSourceSenior Project Engineer leading engineering execution across project lifecycle for power infrastructure projects. Managing external engineering firms, deliverables, and collaboration with various stakeholders.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, engineering planning, detailed design, and construction handoff
- Manage external engineering firms to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards
- Drive the development and review of engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and design packages
- Conduct constructability reviews and support smooth transition to construction teams
- Partner closely with Project Managers and Project Controls teams to manage project schedules and budgets
- Develop and support capital engineering execution plans aligned to financial targets
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Monitor engineering performance, risks, and progress using project management tools and systems
- Apply industry standards and engineering best practices to define project scope and ensure design integrity
- Identify risks early and incorporate mitigation strategies into engineering deliverables
- Drive continuous improvement, design optimization, and cost-effective engineering solutions
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior engineers and project team members
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support training and knowledge-sharing across the organization.
- Build strong partnerships across Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Finance.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited)
- 7–9 years of experience in electric utility engineering or operations
- 1–3 years of experience leading teams, contractors, or projects
- Strong knowledge of utility infrastructure, engineering design, and construction practices
- Experience with project budgeting, forecasting, and cost management
- Familiarity with industry codes, regulations, and safety standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and AutoCAD (or equivalent)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass DOT drug testing.
