Assist Standards Engineers in the development and revision of Company standards related to the operation, maintenance, design, construction, and materials used for gas pipelines and facilities.
Understand and apply applicable federal, state, and industry standards and codes to ensure safe, constructible and cost-effective operation of the gas system.
Assist in the investigation of material failures.
Advise the approval of new materials for Company use.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders including Operations, Design Engineering, Major Projects, Compliance, Legal, and manufacturers/suppliers of materials & equipment.
This is a 12-week summer internship program with tentative dates from May 11, 2026 to August 7, 2026. The role is based in Columbus, OH, Chester, VA, Merrillville, IN or Lexington, KY. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Assist Standards Engineers in the development of and revision of Company standards related to the operation, maintenance, design, construction, and materials used for gas pipelines and facilities.
Work with stakeholders, subject matter representatives (SMR), subject matter experts (SME), and Company peers in evaluating the merits and challenges of each new standard or standards revision, in order to achieve a level of consensus that addresses technical needs, safety, compliance, cost, and operational needs.
Document the life cycle of assigned work in the department’s online tracking system.
Assist Standards Engineers with facility failure investigations (laboratory-based work in a Company facility) and contribute to any associated root cause analyses.
Learn the connections between Company standards, Integrity Management (DIMP, TIMP, SIMP) programs, and Safety Management Systems (SMS), so as to apply lessons learned from those programs to Company standards.
Successful candidate will start in summer 2026 Safety consciousness required.
Required Qualifications for Position Availability for the entire duration of the Summer Internship May 11, 2025 - August 7, 2025
Current student of an ABET accredited, four-year Engineering program. Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
Ability to work 40 hrs/week during the 12-week summer internship program in a hybrid (office/field/home) work environment.
Proficiency with PC applications and prefer strong skills with AutoCAD and MS Excel and Microsoft 365.
Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
