About the role
- Review Power of Attorney documents and trusts, ensuring they are properly executed and compliant with applicable laws. Identify and address any discrepancies or issues in the documents.
- Perform an initial pass on redlining contracts, including reviewing terms, conditions, and clauses to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations. Work with the Associate General Counsel to address any necessary revisions.
- Review and analyze lease agreements to ensure they meet legal standards and align with the company’s objectives. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and provide recommendations for necessary changes.
- Conduct legal research related to mortgage laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure company policies and practices are fully compliant. Provide insights and support in maintaining up-to-date compliance documentation.
- Assist in drafting and editing various legal documents as needed. Ensure all documentation is accurate, clear, and adheres to legal requirements.
- Work closely with the Associate General Counsel and other legal team members to provide support on special projects, legal matters, and contract reviews. Collaborate to ensure smooth legal operations.
- Organize and maintain legal files and documentation, ensuring all records are easily accessible and up-to-date for internal use and audits.
- Provide general legal support for other departments within the company, ensuring that business operations are aligned with legal guidelines and minimizing risk.
Requirements
- Must be a licensed attorney with experience working in-house for a U.S. mortgage company.
- 2+ years of legal experience in a support role or equivalent experience working with legal documents in the mortgage, real estate, or financial services industry.
- Familiarity with Power of Attorney documents, trusts, contracts, leases, and compliance research is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and an understanding of mortgage, real estate, and compliance-related matters.
- Proficient in reviewing and analyzing legal documents such as contracts, leases, and POAs.
- Excellent research skills with the ability to navigate legal databases and resources.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all legal reviews and documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with legal management software is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal information clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being a collaborative team player.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving and legal matters.
