About the role

  • Handle accounting responsibilities for assigned construction and development projects, including job cost tracking and reporting.
  • Prepare job cost journal entries, maintain project-level ledgers, and reconcile and analyze accounts.
  • Manage project contracts, commitments, and budgets within Yardi.
  • Complete and coordinate monthly construction loan draw processes; communicate with lenders and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform cost analysis on projects, comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts; identify and investigate variances.
  • Assist with month-end close by preparing journal entries (accruals, reclasses, and adjustments) and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank accounts.
  • Support preparation of monthly financial reports and internal management reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining fixed asset schedules and tracking capital expenditures.
  • Collaborate with external auditors; prepare audit schedules, provide documentation, and respond to audit requests.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and GAAP.
  • Comply with and support enforcement of internal controls; identify and recommend process improvements.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Manager on special projects and process improvements.
  • Always represent NexMetro in a professional manner and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist the overall team effort in any way possible, including participation in special projects and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA licensure is a plus but not required
  • 2-4 years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in real estate, construction, or property management - or public accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting concepts and theories.
  • Experience with Yardi or similar accounting systems preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
