About the role
- Handle accounting responsibilities for assigned construction and development projects, including job cost tracking and reporting.
- Prepare job cost journal entries, maintain project-level ledgers, and reconcile and analyze accounts.
- Manage project contracts, commitments, and budgets within Yardi.
- Complete and coordinate monthly construction loan draw processes; communicate with lenders and internal stakeholders.
- Perform cost analysis on projects, comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts; identify and investigate variances.
- Assist with month-end close by preparing journal entries (accruals, reclasses, and adjustments) and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank accounts.
- Support preparation of monthly financial reports and internal management reporting.
- Assist in maintaining fixed asset schedules and tracking capital expenditures.
- Collaborate with external auditors; prepare audit schedules, provide documentation, and respond to audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and GAAP.
- Comply with and support enforcement of internal controls; identify and recommend process improvements.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Work closely with the Accounting Manager on special projects and process improvements.
- Always represent NexMetro in a professional manner and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned and assist the overall team effort in any way possible, including participation in special projects and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- CPA licensure is a plus but not required
- 2-4 years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in real estate, construction, or property management - or public accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting concepts and theories.
- Experience with Yardi or similar accounting systems preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
