About the role
- To self-shoot video packages to a broadcast standard. To edit footage in a confident, creative and effective manner, making full use of production software tools to make interesting and engaging video packages for online and broadcast partners.
- To use your skills to conduct interviews with local politicians and the people affected by their decisions. To produce video reports that bring clarity and insight to complex issues.
- Dive deep into local political stories, uncovering the truth and providing in-depth analysis that informs and engages our audiences.
- Build strong relationships with local government officials, community leaders, and residents, becoming a trusted voice in the community.
- Ensure your stories are accurate, balanced, and fair, upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
- Work closely with fellow local democracy reporters and editors to deliver comprehensive and compelling coverage.
- Utilise social media and digital platforms to reach and engage with a wide audience, fostering a vibrant community dialogue.
Requirements
- Proven experience in journalism, with a strong focus on local news and a deep understanding of local government and political processes.
- Outstanding writing, research, and communication abilities. Ability to identify case-studies and humanise each story. Previous experience in video and audio production would be an asset.
- Ability to work autonomously and thrive under tight deadlines.
- Expertise in digital journalism and social media – and how to make the most of online tools and platforms to foster engagement.
- A driving licence and access to a car will be required.
