About the role

  • You will grow the audience on the brands’ websites, drive digital subscriptions, help reporters cater to our loyal audience, and ensure our newsletters are of a high standard.
  • You will work alongside the rest of the newsdesk editors, motivating, mentoring and developing the reporting team.
  • You will help run the day-to-day news agenda, planning, investigations and campaigns.
  • You will also lead the content mix for the two printed daily newspapers.
  • When other editors are away, you will step up and fulfil those duties.

Requirements

  • We are looking for a creative, digitally savvy operator who understands the needs of a modern newsroom and wants to help deliver the best stories to our audience.
  • The ideal candidates would already be working on a news desk or be experienced senior reporters looking for the next step up.
  • You will have an excellent knowledge of media law and will be comfortable dealing with members of the public.
  • You may often write your own articles as well.
  • Be able to inspire a team
  • Drive our news agenda
  • Deputise for other editors when they are off
  • Thrive working under pressure – including reacting to breaking news
  • Know exactly what makes a story
  • Be creative and full of ideas
  • Write articles when needed
  • Create the right mix of content, for the right time of day and platform – online and in print
  • Be able to process and edit copy for both print and online
  • Place copy on pages for the newspapers
