About the role

  • Exceed the expectations of our residential mortgage borrowers & business partners through superior service, simple processes, and effective communications.
  • Site or multi-site responsibility for the company’s originations consumer operations center.
  • Motivate and lead an Underwriting team which consists of 4-8 Underwriting Managers each supporting 8-10 UW team members.
  • Provide leadership within the various operations functions including, but not limited to, process flow management and implementation, state and federal compliance, risk assessment, policy and procedures implementation and pipeline management.
  • Ensure that departmental areas of responsibilities are efficient, and that the loan files are supported by adequate documentation to ensure the viability of loans for sale in the secondary market.
  • Lead and mentor underwriting managers in the lending channel.
  • Subject matter expert and decision maker on underwriting execution in the channel.
  • Implement corporate goals and initiatives as communicated by Operation’s senior management.
  • Monitor monthly and quarterly production goals to support the center’s business plan.
  • Monitor Trend and analyze underwriting performance based on service levels, QC results, Self-testing results, and delinquency and portfolio characteristics.
  • Monitor and test compliance with regulatory requirements for Regulation B and HMDA.
  • Manage process flows and procedures consistent with corporate goals, state and federal laws and secondary market investor requirements as well as monitoring the effectiveness of those flows and procedures.
  • Interact with and help manage processing and closing vendors to address escalated issues, customer service and turnaround times.
  • Resolve loan related problems as they are escalated past the teams.
  • Work with the channel senior leadership to balance staffing levels and assist in selection of candidates for hire in the center.

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating worksheets, checklists, policies and procedures.
  • Coach and counsel the team associates for peak performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related disciplines preferred or work experience equivalent.
  • 8+ years’ experience in first and second mortgage UW or comparable financial services are required.
  • FHA/VA expertise.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing and leading in a mortgage production and team environment.
  • Lending authority to $2MM.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as a team focus.
  • Knowledge of mortgage products is imperative, and an understanding of other types of financial products is desirable.
  • Must be able to effectively manage in a high pressure, rapidly changing environment.
  • Determine training needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in systems evaluations and recommendations.
  • Oversee the recommendations from Managers/Directors to adjust staffing, scheduling to meet changing volume requirements and budget guidelines.
  • Oversee the handling of customer complaints/requests and become involved in any that require additional management interception.
