About the role
- Participate in cross-functional teams to work seamlessly across disciplines as required to execute product initiatives
- Review relevant competitive products to provide benchmarking and analysis of technical specifications
- Perform and record competitive products testing and identifies design alternatives
- Recommend and present solutions and opportunities in forums to encourage ideation and technical sharing
- Identify cost and risks at the component and sub-assembly level to meet defined cost targets
- Develop the analysis of how sub-assembly level decisions impact the overall business strategy to facilitate design-for-cost
- Provide routine engineering, working autonomously on project teams with little to no guidance from more Senior Engineers to deliver well-engineered products
- Implement existing technologies on a project level to deliver products
- Use a disciplined approach and the appropriate methodology to analyze and determine the preferred solution to technical challenges
- Analyze test results to provide data for use in solving problems
- Develop optimal product test plans to validate design
- Summarize complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience to gain alignment
- Incorporate consumer and market insights to drive innovation and project execution
- Apply an understanding of product specifications, material selection, manufacturing processes, cost constraints, regulatory and legal landscape (intellectual property) to drive high quality, sustainable, and efficient NPD
- Recommend architecture of products and is accountable for the system to ensure robust end product designs
- May need to generate Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and uses other technical tools as needed to execute business projects/initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, design, or related field.
- 1-3 years of engineering experience with a consumer hard-goods company
- Evidence of strong systematic problem-solving using proven methodologies
- Demonstrates experience with intellectual property and the patent process
- Assist in writing technical specifications for the development and implementation of new products, ECN’s, continuous improvement and VAVE efforts
- Track record of leading design work on at least one successfully launched durable consumer goods (on-time, on-cost, on-budget, on-specification)
- Knowledge of plastic, metal, electromechanical and/or glass production design and processing a plus
- Ability to understand 3D CAD and drawings
- Effective planning/organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities.
- Provides technical support in solving post launch product warranty challenges.

- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, especially communication, exhibiting ability to express ideas precisely, persuasively, and effectively
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
